On April 28th, 2017, Caisse Financial Group, in partnership with the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (CDEM), signed an agreement of collaboration with the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM) to deliver a financial literacy program in the francophone schools. All three partners of this important program agree that financial skills and knowledge are invaluable for the students’ transition from the school environment to adulthood and the labor force.
Since 2013, Caisse Financial Group, CDEM and Junior Achievement Manitoba have collaborated to develop, finance and present a financial literacy program in the francophone and immersion schools of Manitoba. The objective of the program is to create awareness and educate students at a young age about finances and entrepreneurship with informative presentations and interactive activities. Students learn the basic notions of saving, borrowing and investing that they will need in everyday life and to better their future. The program allows students to explore the option of entrepreneurship.
Joël Rondeau, CEO of Caisse Financial Group, worries about the fact that the level of personal debt is constantly increasing in Canada. He believes that integrating financial literacy in the classroom provides an opportunity to reach youth before they start making financial decisions and to teach them the importance of developing good financial habits to succeed in life.
Alain Laberge, Executive Director, DSFM, indicates that partnering with Caisse and CDEM will allow students to make sound financial decisions. This partnership will also contribute to the vision of building community-oriented schools in the DSFM.
Louis Allain, Executive Director, CDEM, is proud to be part of this unique partnership which is innovative in its collaborative approach between the three organizations, whom, together, will assure that future generations are well equipped to prosper in the new economy.
The financial literacy program is offered at no charge to the DSFM schools and French Immersion schools in Manitoba. The sessions for grades 3 to 12 are presented by Caisse and CDEM employees who are trained in the area of finance and entrepreneurship.
This program is offered in French only. If you are interested in a similar program in English, please contact Junior Achievement Manitoba.
