Security of Online Banking Service
Our Online Banking Service offers you the best security currently available in a commercial environment. This means your privacy and confidentiality are assured.
The integrity of the information you send is guaranteed. Transactions and communications from members are received without alteration.
Any personal information that you submit or transactions that you complete are secure and cannot be read by anyone else.
- We ensure your personal and financial information is protected while in transit between your computer and our Online Banking System through the use of industry standard security techniques which include Transport Layer Security (TLS) and encryption. Encryption ensures that information cannot be read (private and confidential) or changed (integrity). Only individuals with the correct PIN can access your account information.
- Our Online Banking System has been designed to lock your session automatically if there has been no activity for 10 minutes. Therefore if our system detects that you haven’t provided any instructions or used the browser buttons to navigate within our Online Banking site for 10 minutes, the session will automatically be locked and you will need to enter your Personal Access Code and your Personal Identification Number to continue.
- Our Online Banking System uses a technique called a “cookie.” A cookie is a small amount of information stored on your computer in an encrypted form which is intermittently sent to and from our online banking system. The cookie provides us with information that enables us to ensure that each request for information really comes from you and that we deliver the information only to you. The cookie also identifies when your system has been inactive for 10 minutes to enable the locking detailed above.
Protect your PIN
In order to ensure that only you are allowed access to your accounts, you will be asked to create your own Personal Identification Number (PIN) that only you know. You can change your PIN at any time. We ensure that only individuals who provide the correct PIN can access your account information.
Contact your branch immediately if you suspect that someone knows your PIN.
To protect your PIN, we recommend that you practice the following security measures:
- Select a PIN that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
- Do not select a PIN that is too easy (such as 12345) or that contains personal information (ex. birth date, address, phone number, social insurance number or similar information about your family members).
- Keep your PIN confidential.
- Do not write your PIN number down or store it in a PC file. If you absolutely have to save it somewhere, ensure only you know where you put it.
- Disable automatic password save features in your Internet browser and any software that you use to access your Internet Service Provider.
- Never disclose your PIN in a voice mail or email message and do not disclose it over the phone, especially cellular phones.
- Do not share your PIN with anyone.
- Do not permit anyone to observe you typing in your PIN.
- Change your PIN on a regular basis. We suggest every 3 to 4 months.
Protect the information on your computer
We provide a secure method for our members to communicate with us. Once the information has reached your computer, it is up to you to protect it. Here are suggested security measures that you should take.
- Never leave your computer unattended while using the Online Banking Service. Always exit the Online Banking Service and your Internet browser if you step away from your computer.
- Your Internet browser software may retain information you entered until you exit the browser. Most Internet browsers store information in non-protected (unencrypted) files in the browser’s cache to improve performance and these files remain until they are deleted. The files can be deleted using standard PC utilities or by using your browser feature to “empty” the cache.
- Disable automatic password save features in your Internet browser and any software that you use to access your Internet Service Provider.
- Install and use a quality anti-virus program.
It is important to note that emails sent over the Internet do not employ encryption or other security features therefore we recommend that you do not include private or confidential information in such communications.
